CNN Presidential Ranking
First off when you look at the ranking, notice that there are only 42 presidents. That's because Grover Cleveland is counted twice since his two terms were not consecutive. Also, not counted is John Hanson who was the president of the Articles of Confederation Congress. We were a country - shouldn't he count?! The CNN survey is also shows the categories that it used to come up with the list. Here is a listing of other rankings.

Forty-two is the correct number of former president's. Barak Obama is our 44th president. Forty-two from 44 is two. The two missing presidents are Grover Cleveland for the reason you mention above and Barak Obama. President Obama is misisng because he is the current president rather than a former president. In December when the poll was taken, he wasn't even the current president, he was the president-elect. John Hanson is missing from the list because he was not president of the United States. He is missing from all the lists of the presidents. George Washington was the first president.
